Stop and Smell the Roses
There I was, in our backyard with Alistair, and I see all these really neat clouds. I can’t remember the last time I laid on the grass and watched the clouds. So I indulged. It was fun! Alistair was walking around on the grass, and I stared skyward. The calmness of it all got me thinking just how rare it is for a parent to stop and smell the roses. We are always so on-the-go that it’s easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life. From one thing to the next, we sacrifice the joy of slowing down and taking in the bigger picture. We really owe it to ourselves to enjoy some of the beauties of nature. In my case it was a sunny day with some rare clouds. I truly enjoyed it, and spent that time meditating on the tiny alterations each cloud made as they slowly drifted by. Time seemed to stop. And then, with a contented smile in my heart, I gazed across the backyard at Alistair, and realized I had 2 seconds to reach him before he put a cat turd in his mouth. Back to life.
